Weather and habitual lip licking are some of the reasons why your lips are cracked. This part of the body doesn’t have oil glands and thus lips are not moisturized during cold. Cold gives lips bad look, making them dry and chapped.
Because of this condition, we frequently use lip balms. However, it is better to stop using lip balms from the stores and start using a product from nature – coconut oil. This oil has minerals that hydrate your lips and cure the dryness, making your lips soft and smooth.
You can find many types of lip balms in the market. However, these lip balms do not have the same benefits as coconut oil, but can be helpful. If you choose lip balms instead coconut oil, always buy natural lip balm that doesn’t include chemicals.
Additionally, there are many homemade remedies for dry and chapped lips. There are certain natural moisturizers that can smoothen and rehydrate lips.

- Start using coconut oil instead an everyday lip balm. Apply a small amount of the oil on your lips several times daily.
- Prepare your own lip balm at home by mixing 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and ¾ teaspoon of honey. Use a spoon to stir well the ingredients well. Then, store the resulted mixture in a small container with a lid. Use it throughout the day.
Coconut oil can be mixed with olive oil or any other oils too. The resulted mixture can be used regularly or only before going to bed, so it can work overnight. This mixture is very helpful and protects your lips from the cold weather.
Tips
Apply coconut oil before going to bed to moisture your lips while sleeping.
Use the homemade lip scrub once a week or when needed for lips exfoliation. If you use the scrub too much, your lips may become red or irritated.
Warnings
If licking the lips is your habit, coconut oil can make the chapping worse because of its pleasant flavor. Thus, try less palatable product like wheat germ oil or beeswax.
